Savor the Flavor of Mississippi
The MS Department of Education/Office of Child Nutrition recently hosted our statewide Jr Chef Cooking Competition - "SAVOR THE FLAVOR OF MISSISSIPPI"! This competition allows High School Culinary Arts students the opportunity to learn about recipe development, farm to school resources, teamwork, and friendly competition among their peers. The recipes are nutritious and student-friendly that are easily incorporated into Child Nutrition menus. The competition usually consists of about twenty (20) teams from across the state.
Each team is in full competition mode as they display their culinary talents to move forward to State Finals; this is where the top three (3) regional teams come together to battle it out for the overall 1st Place Trophy. The 1st place Mississippi team then prepares to travel to the Southeast Regional Competition in Louisville, KY to compete against other 1st Place winners from: Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Tennessee. This competition is designed to encourage students to become more engaged in Culinary Arts by providing them an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a competitive environment.
