State Board of Education Names Dr. Robert Taylor New State Superintendent of Education

JACKSON, Miss. – Today the Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) named Dr. Robert Taylor, a 30-year veteran educator and deputy state superintendent for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Mississippi’s new state superintendent of education.

Spring 2022 ACT Scores for Mississippi Juniors Released

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has released ACT results for the spring 2022 statewide administration of the ACT to all public high school juniors.

The average score for juniors increased from 17.3 in 2021 to 17.4 in 2022. The percentage of juniors meeting the benchmark scores for all four tested ACT subjects increased from 8.9% in 2021 to 9.3% in 2022.

Mississippi maintains NAEP 4th grade reading gains despite national decline in all subjects

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi maintained its historic gains in 4th grade reading on the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), while scores nationally dropped in all four NAEP subjects and grades.

The 2022 NAEP results provide the first national measure of student learning since the start of the pandemic. Known as the Nation’s Report Card, NAEP measures student performance in 4th and 8th grade reading and math in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

MDE announces new members of State Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council for 2022-23

NEWS RELEASE

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) announced today the new members of the State Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC) for 2022-23. The council includes students in grades 11-12 or first year of college to serve as members for a term of two school years.

The council includes 63 new members. They will join 52 students returning to the council from the previous school year.
