JACKSON, Miss. –“I am thrilled to see that Mississippi was one of five most improved states in the latest report from Quality Counts. This boost in performance between 2017 and 2018 is directly related to increased preschool enrollment and graduation rates. This achievement could not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of students, teachers, leaders and parents in every school district across the state.
We also value a strong working relationship with our elected leaders and the Mississippi State Board of Education. The Board’s goals and strategic plan serve as the guide for the work of the Mississippi Department of Education, which has a direct impact on changing the education landscape.
Raising student performance takes time, dedication and a steady investment in programs and supports that will continue to move the needle of academic achievement in Mississippi. We know what works - strong commitment to early childhood education, a focus on literacy, high standards for learning, professional development and support to teachers and state assessments that measure what students learn in the classroom.
We must not retreat from what has been working. In fact, with continued investments in education, we will continue to see a return on those investments.”
