State Board of Education Sets Policies to Resume In-Person Schooling as Primary Teaching Mode

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) passed two policies that call for all school districts to resume in-person instruction as the primary mode of teaching starting in the 2021-22 school year. The policies set requirements for districts that choose to offer a virtual learning option to individual students and establish standards for virtual learning days.

Interim Superintendent Appointed to Noxubee County District of Transformation

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has appointed chief of staff Dr. Washington Cole IV as interim superintendent of Noxubee County School District, which became a District of Transformation in 2018. He replaces Rodriguez Broadnax, who is leaving the district June 30 to lead a Michigan school district.

Laurel High School Student Micah Hill Selected as State Board of Education Student Representative

NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: June 16, 2021

JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) has selected Micah Hill of Laurel to serve as the high school junior student representative to the SBE for the 2021-22 school year.  

Student representatives are non-voting members but provide input on policy decisions that affect Mississippi public schools. Micah will join Amy Zhang of Starkville, who serves as the high school senior representative to the SBE.
