JACKSON, Miss. – Dr. Lynn House, interim state superintendent of education, in consultation with Dr. Wayne Gann, chairman of the Mississippi Board of Education, announced today that seniors who have completed all graduation requirements with the exception of passing only one subject area end-of-course assessment (SATP2) are now eligible for emergency testing.
“In an ongoing effort to provide our seniors with every opportunity to pass all required subject area tests before graduation, this new condition of eligibility has been added for the emergency testing of seniors,” House said.
Effective immediately, school district test coordinators can make testing arrangements with the Research and Curriculum Unit at Mississippi State University in Starkville. While it is the desire for all eligible students who apply to be tested, due to the time constraints, requests will be considered in the order that they are received as long as space is available.
Students are expected to receive their scores within 48 hours of taking the test, and the results will be sent directly to the school district test coordinators. If the student receives a passing score, and if all other state and district requirements for graduation have been met, the student will be qualified to participate in commencement exercises.
Subject area tests are administered to students as part of the requirements for the federal No Child Left Behind Act and the State Accountability Model. Since the 2001-2002 school year, students have been required to pass the subject area tests for graduation and are not allowed to participate in commencement exercises unless all tests have been passed.
