Social Studies

The Department of Social Studies, as part of the Office of Elementary Education and Reading and the Office of Secondary Education, is responsible for providing support to educators throughout the state in the implementation of Mississippi’s College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) for Social Studies. The 2022 MS CCRS for Social Studies reflect national expectations while focusing on postsecondary success, but they are unique to Mississippi in addressing the needs of our students and teachers. The Department of Social Studies will provide resources for teachers, and deliver statewide school-based professional development centered around four practices: conceptual understanding, fostering inquiry, collaboration, action, and integration of cultural inclusivity with content skills.
