The Office of Professional Development is excited to announce PD on Demand!

PD on Demand is professional learning at your fingertips. Educators can now access OPD professional development sessions anytime, anywhere! Each session is broken into bite-sized lessons, which include direct instruction videos from expert trainers, activities, and additional resources to dive deeper into topics. PD has never been easier!

Ways to Use PD on Demand

Cross-Curricular Sessions:

  • Making the Move to Digital Learning – This session explores common features of a digital classroom by examining how to write learning targets, assess learning, create instructional content, and build relationships with parents and students in a digital learning environment.  
  • Eligibility Categories – This session looks closely at each of the thirteen special education eligibility categories that can be found on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support all teachers gain a better understanding of what considerations must be made to meet the needs of students who are eligible for special education services.
  • Assessment Literacy – This  3-part series provides additional understanding around assessments at the local and state levels; and, explores the purpose and use of assessments, creation of balanced assessments, and selection of high-quality, commercial assessments. Educators are encouraged to work within their PLCs throughout this series to maximize the benefits of the information shared.
ELA Sessions:
  • The Struggle Is Real: Secondary ELA – This session is designed for secondary ELA and special education teachers who work with students who struggle to read. The mini-lessons in this session focus on how the Simple View of Reading helps pinpoint issues in decoding and language comprehension and how to develop a plan of action to support struggling readers.
  • Overview of the MS CCRS for ELA – In this session, ELA teachers and coaches can explore the MS CCRS for ELA. After a brief introduction, each subsequent mini-lesson focuses on a different component to support teachers in developing a deeper understanding of unpacking the standards and the use of the MS CCRS Scaffolding Document and examination of vertical alignment.
Mathematics Sessions:
  • The Struggle Is Real – In this session, mathematics teachers and coaches can explore the five types of mathematical representations: physical, visual, symbolic, verbal, and contextual. Each mini-lesson focuses on a different type of representation and the role it plays in effective mathematics instruction for all students.
  • Overview of the MS CCRS for Mathematics – In this session, mathematics teachers and coaches can explore the MS CCRS for Mathematics. After a brief introduction, each mini-lesson focuses on a different component to support teachers in developing a deeper understanding of unpacking the standards by using the MS CCRS Scaffolding Document, as well as identifying the rigor of standards and how the Standards for Mathematical Practices can enhance instruction.
Science Sessions:
  • Overview of the Standards: Three Dimensions of Science – In this session, science teachers and coaches will examine the organization of the MS CCRS for Science. Mini-lessons will explore a breakdown of the three dimensions, which include the disciplinary core ideas, crosscutting concepts and the science and engineering practices.
Special Education Sessions:
  • IEP on Demand – The mini-lessons included in this session look at each component of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and provide special education teachers guidance for writing a compliant legal document.
