Health Services EPSDT: Early Prevention, Screening, Diagnostic & Treatment

EPSDT is a free health care program for Mississippi’s Medicaid-eligible children ages birth to 21.  It is designed to assess health care early in life so that potential disease and disabilities can be prevented or detected in their preliminary states, when they are most effectively treated, and assess a child’s health at regular, recommended intervals to assure continued healthy development.  EPSDT screening services include the following:

  • Comprehensive health and developmental history
  • Comprehensive physical exam
  • Appropriate immunizations
  • Laboratory tests, including lead toxicity screening
  • Adolescent counseling
  • Health education
  • Vision services
  • Hearing services

Mississippi is leading the way as the first state to offer EPSDT services through school nurses!
