Parent and Family Engagement

The purpose of Parent and Family Engagement under Title I, Part A is to provide support to schools, family, and the community in the development of partnerships and building relationships.  Parent and Family Engagement focuses on increasing active participation, communication, and collaboration between all stakeholders, reaching beyond barriers of culture, language, disabilities, and poverty to improve education and other important outcomes for children, youth and adults.

In addition to participating in their child’s education, Title I envisions parent participation in each of the three levels of decision making: state, district, and school. 

• The Strategies for Equitable Family Engagement is provided to assist SEAs (state education agencies), LEAs (local education agencies), and schools in administering the parental involvement provisions of Title I, Part A of the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act).

Templates

Schools and parents may use the Parent-Student-Teacher Compact template or the School-Parent-Traditional Compact template as a framework for the information to be included in their School-Parent Compact.

Districts may use the Parent and Family Engagement Best Practices Rubric and Assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of the activities implemented at the school level.
