{"id":748,"date":"2021-04-15T19:04:42","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T19:04:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wptest.mdek12.org\/testsite2\/2021\/04\/15\/mde-to-appoint-financial-adviser-for-holmes-county-consolidated-school-district_20210415\/"},"modified":"2021-04-15T19:04:42","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T19:04:42","slug":"mde-to-appoint-financial-adviser-for-holmes-county-consolidated-school-district_20210415","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdek12.org\/communications\/2021\/04\/15\/mde-to-appoint-financial-adviser-for-holmes-county-consolidated-school-district_20210415\/","title":{"rendered":"MDE to Appoint Financial Adviser for Holmes County Consolidated School District"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin-bottom: 13px\"><strong>NEWS RELEASE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Immediate Release: April 15, 2021<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 13px\">JACKSON, Miss. \u2013 The Mississippi&nbsp;Department of Education will appoint a financial adviser for the&nbsp;Holmes County Consolidated School District because of a finding by the Office of the State Auditor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Office of the State Auditor issued a letter to the Mississippi State Board of Education on March 23 declaring a \u201cdisclaimer of opinion has been issued for Holmes County Consolidated School District for the year ended June 30, 2019.\u201d&nbsp;A disclaimer of opinion occurs when the auditor&nbsp;does not&nbsp;receive&nbsp;all&nbsp;the necessary&nbsp;financial information to complete&nbsp;the&nbsp;audit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In that event, state law requires the state superintendent of education to direct the school district to immediately cease all expenditures until a financial adviser is appointed by the state superintendent.
