{"id":3149,"date":"2025-01-08T15:15:16","date_gmt":"2025-01-08T15:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdek12.org\/communications\/?p=3149"},"modified":"2025-01-08T15:15:16","modified_gmt":"2025-01-08T15:15:16","slug":"state-superintendents-2023-24-annual-report-highlights-mississippis-decade-of-historic-academic-achievement-in-public-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdek12.org\/communications\/2025\/01\/08\/state-superintendents-2023-24-annual-report-highlights-mississippis-decade-of-historic-academic-achievement-in-public-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"State Superintendent\u2019s 2023-24 Annual Report highlights Mississippi\u2019s decade of historic academic achievement in public schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEWS RELEASE<\/strong><br \/>\nFor Immediate Release: \u00a0January 8, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3150 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2025\/01\/News20250108.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"363\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2025\/01\/News20250108.png 363w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2025\/01\/News20250108-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>State Superintendent\u2019s 2023-24 Annual Report highlights Mississippi\u2019s decade of historic academic achievement in public schools <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>JACKSON, Miss. \u2013 The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) 2023-24 Superintendent\u2019s Annual Report has been released covering Mississippi\u2019s historic decade of academic achievement and improved student outcome within the state\u2019s public school system.<\/p>\n<p>Report highlights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Results from the 2023-24 Mississippi Academic Assessment Program, which showed that overall students scored proficient or advanced reaching a record high of 47.8% in English Language Arts (ELA), 56.3% in mathematics and 63.4% in science.<\/li>\n<li>Graduation rate reached an all-time high of 89.4%.<\/li>\n<li>The number of Mississippi students taking Advanced Placement (AP) exams more than doubled since 2013, reaching a record high in 2024 of 12,442 public school students taking 17,717 AP exams, with a record high of 7,733 exams earning a qualifying score.<\/li>\n<li>6,720 students earned industry certifications in a Career and Technical Education program.<\/li>\n<li>The number of Early Learning Collaboratives for pre-K students increased to 40, and the number of State Invested Pre-K programs increased to 24.<\/li>\n<li>MDE completed development of the Mississippi Educator Career Continuum Archive (MECCA) System that manages licensure and other information about the careers of Mississippi educators from recruitment through retirement.<\/li>\n<li>A revamped Mississippi Student Information System (MSIS) launched in July 2024 to improve electronic collection, management, and reporting of school district data.<\/li>\n<li>Mississippi school and district accountability A &#8211;
