Mississippi’s Career, Technical Education Plan Open for Public Comment

NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: November 19, 2019

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi State Board of Education is seeking public comment on the Carl D. Perkins V State Plan (Perkins plan) that governs career and technical education (CTE) in the state.  Mississippi’s vision for education and workforce development is to ensure students graduate high school prepared for postsecondary studies and success in the workforce.

The goals of the Perkins plan are to provide a pipeline of qualified workers to meet economic and industry needs, to define the size, scope, and quality for CTE programs that are appropriate for Mississippi in 2020, to develop and implement CTE performance indicators that are aligned to state and federal expectations and to implement a regional and local needs assessment that brings stakeholders together to identify CTE program needs. The Mississippi Department of Education worked with the Mississippi Community College Board, the Mississippi State University Research and Curriculum Unit, and business/workforce representatives in developing the plan.

To generate additional public participation, three regional feedback meetings have been scheduled for stakeholders to ask questions and provide feedback about Mississippi’s Perkins plan.
