Students will participate in career exposure, training, and work-based learning opportunities to inform their career path.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MDE Resources: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>K-12 Work-Based Learning Guidance (in online folder)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mdek12.org\/secondaryeducation\/counseling-and-support-services\/\">Individual Success Plan (ISP) Resources<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mdek12.org\/secondaryeducation\/counseling-and-support-services\/\">College and Career Readiness Resources<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdek12.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Offices\/MDE\/OAE\/SEC\/Counseling\/2020-2021_ms_career_development_resource_document-final.pdf\">MDE Career Development Resource Document<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mdek12.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/03\/Tab-H.07-2025-Exploring-Careers-final.pdf\">MDE Exploring Careers Course<\/a><\/li>\n<li>MS Program of Study Resources (RCU updating these documents, summer completion date)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mdek12.org\/jrotc\/\">JROTC<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcu.msstate.edu\/\">Mississippi State University Research and Curriculum Unit (RCU)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mdek12.org\/secondaryeducation\/college-and-career-readiness\/\">MS College and Career Readiness Course<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mdek12.org\/secondaryeducation\/bridge-to-career-course\/\">Bridge to Career Course<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Some Suggested Strategies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Review and update each student\u2019s Individual Success Plan (ISP) annually<\/li>\n<li>Utilize Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) career development and exploration resources<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with school counselors to plan high school coursework aligned to career interests<\/li>\n<li>Partner with career coaches to plan work-based learning (WBL) experiences<\/li>\n<li>Plan and conduct business, industry, and postsecondary tours<\/li>\n<li>Organize job shadowing opportunities and industry-related field trips<\/li>\n<li>Invite human resources professionals to discuss hiring practices, required skills, and employment documentation<\/li>\n<li>Introduce students to apprenticeships and regional work-based learning opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Advise students on all elective options, including Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways<\/li>\n<li>Plan field trips to community colleges, universities, and technical centers<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate CTE program visits or tours at local community colleges<\/li>\n<li>Conduct employability preparation workshops (resume writing, mock interviews, leadership development)<\/li>\n<li>Provide sustained opportunities for students to interact with business partners and industry professionals<\/li>\n<li>Implement classroom-based entrepreneurial projects in collaboration with business professionals<\/li>\n<li>Teach employability skills and work ethic, including teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking, technology use, and conflict resolution<\/li>\n<li>Invite local employers to speak with students about in-demand employability skills<\/li>\n<li>Model and reinforce leadership and character skills such as time management, self-advocacy, study skills, and public speaking<\/li>\n<li>Encourage participation in student clubs and leadership activities (e.g., National Honor Society, student government, athletics, robotics)<\/li>\n<li>Support involvement in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)<\/li>\n<li>Educate students on early college credit options, including AP, IB, dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment, Early College, and CTE courses<\/li>\n<li>Offer opportunities for students to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)<\/li>\n<li>Support exploration of internship and apprenticeship opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Teach job search skills, including applications, cover letters, interviews, professional communication, and workplace etiquette<\/li>\n<li>Maintain partnerships with community-based programs and organizations (<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/ja.org\/ja-mississippi\/ja-for-mississippi?authuser=0\">Junior Achievement,<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/code.org\/\">org<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/extension.msstate.edu\/4-h\">4-H<\/a>, Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During grades nine through twelve, students will focus on the question, &#8220;How do I get where I am going?&#8221; with the support of career educators, counselors, and career coaches.
