Mississippi Women Educators of Color Summit

The Mississippi Department of Education hosts an annual one-day convening of minority women educators. This event brings together women educators of color from Pre-K- 12 grade schools, higher education and community organizations. This event was created in 2019 and hosted more than 100 women during the summit.

The Division of Educator Effectiveness is committed to continue and expand the Mississippi Women Educators of Color Summit in the coming year. The MDE is looking to bring in state and national leaders to provide solutions and ideas for all teachers and education professionals.

 

2020 Mississippi Women Educators of Color Summit

The 2020 Mississippi Women Educators of Color Summit is in beginning stages of planning for our upcoming 2020 Conference.

Why should I attend?
The Mississippi Women Educators of Color Summit is an incredible opportunity to learn and network with state and national educators.

  • Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) will be available
  • Network with over 100 women educators and professionals from across the state and nation

What kind of Sessions will be offered?
Breakout sessions will offer topics and discussion on topics that educators can refresh skills and acquire new skills for their jobs.  We strive to provide sessions that educators want to attend, learn and gather insightful information that can be used.

2019 Mississippi Women Educators of Color Summit:

The 2019 2020 Mississippi Women Educators of Color Summit was held on August 17, 2019 at the Jackson Convention Center. Over 100 women teacher, educators and leaders attended the one-day event.

The day consisted of educational development, self-reflection, cultural competencies, strategies for increasing women educators of color in the field and establishing relationships.

Also, participants were provided with professional learning and leadership strategies to further impact the communities and school districts they are serving.

Guest Speakers included:

Ms. Noemi Pavon, Founder of the Pavon Firm, LLC. Her work focuses on enabling world-class leadership, professional development and strategic organizational management. 

Dr. Barbara Logan-Smith, Vice President for the Efficacy Institute, a national non-profit agency of education reform, dedicated to the mission of proficiency for all children in academics and character. 

Dr. Mary McBride-Brown, serves as Superintendent of Schools of Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District.
