Mississippi Beginnings Curriculum

The Office of Early Childhood is honored to provide an open-source curriculum for four-year-old preschool classrooms (public, private, childcare, home care, Head Start).  MS Beginnings: Pre-K curriculum is intended to support any preschool teacher in providing a rich, play-based, intentional developmentally appropriate instructions.  When implemented with fidelity, the MS Beginnings: Pre-K builds social-emotional, executive function, language, literacy, math, and vocabulary skills.

MS Beginnings: Pre-K meets the requirements of the Early Learning Guidelines:

  • Aligned to Early Learning Standards
  • Comprehensive to cover all domains
  • Emphasis on early childhood literacy
  • Evidence-based of child outcomes
  • Thematic based

Special thanks to the Boston Public Schools Department of Early Childhood for their guidance and support in the creation of MS Beginnings: Pre-K.  The curriculum is derived from Boston’s Focus on Early Learning curriculum.  The child outcomes evidence-based research can be found at this link:  Teacher as Researcher — Focus on Early Learning (bpsearlylearning.org).
