Mississippi State Board of Education Proposes New Diploma Options to Expand College and Career Opportunities for All Students

JACKSON, Miss – The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) voted today to invite public comment on a proposal that would give students the opportunity to earn an endorsement with their high school diploma and would ensure that the majority of students with disabilities earn a traditional diploma.

Mississippi’s Graduation Rate Continues Climb, More Students Earn Diplomas

JACKSON, Miss. – For the third consecutive year, Mississippi high school graduation rates inched closer to the national average. The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) released today the graduation rates for the last school year, a four-year graduation rate of 82.3 percent.

The U.S. high school graduation rate is 83.2 percent. Dr. Carey Wright, state superintendent of education, said parents, teachers and administrators should be proud of the state’s gains. School districts have worked to open multiple ways for students to earn a diploma.

Superintendent’s Annual Report for 2015-16 is Now Available

The report contains key data points about academic achievements in the 2015-16 school year and information about the Mississippi State Board of Education’s (SBE) goals for public education in Mississippi. Also included is financial, statistical and other pertinent information at the state and local school district levels.  

Mississippi Board of Education Approves Assessment Contract for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Board of Education today approved a $73,200 contract with the University of Kansas Center for Research to deliver online alternate assessments for students with significant cognitive disabilities for the 2014-2015 school year.

The assessments will be given for English Language Arts and Math for grades 3-8 and 12. A Request for Proposals will be issued to procure an alternate assessment for academic years 2015-2016 and beyond.
