Deadline Approaching for Mississippi College and Career-Ready Standards Public Comment Forum

August 26, 2015

JACKSON, Miss – Education stakeholders have until Sept. 15 to provide feedback on the Mississippi College and Career-Ready Standards (MCCRS). The standards describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the end of each grade.

Participants may provide input online through the MCCRS Feedback Forum. The forum is available at mississippi.statestandards.com.

Blueprint of New Mississippi Assessment Program Tests Available

JACKSON, Miss. – Teachers and administrators can now see blueprints of the new statewide assessments for the 2015-16 school year. The Office of Student Assessment in the Mississippi Department of Education has released the test blueprints for the new Mississippi Assessment Program (MAP), the statewide exams for students in grades 3-8 and end-of-course assessments.

MDE Charges Second Clarksdale Teacher with Cheating on State Test

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) issued an administrative complaint on Sept. 9 against Tetra Winters, a teacher at Heidelberg Elementary School in the Clarksdale Municipal School District, for violating state law by knowingly and willfully cheating on state assessments.

This is the second complaint filed as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of testing irregularities at Heidelberg Elementary School. MDE is seeking to revoke the license of Winters.

Two Mississippi High School Students to be Selected to Spend a Week In Washington Observing the Federal Government in Action

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi Senators Thad Cochran and Roger F. Wicker announced that the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) has begun its annual statewide selection process. The two Mississippi students will join 102 other delegates March 5-12, 2016 for the program’s 54th annual Washington Week.

Majority of Participants Support Mississippi College and Career-Ready Standards

JACKSON, Miss. – More than 90 percent of the participants in the Mississippi College and Career-Ready Standards (MCCRS) Feedback Forum approved of the learning goals for students, according to final results presented to the Mississippi Board of Education today. Over 1,300 people visited the site in a 3-month period, providing 8,521 points of feedback.

Board Approves Combined Minimum Score for Tests Required for Graduation

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Board of Education today approved the combined minimum score for the four exams in the Subject Area Test Program (SATP) that are required for graduation. Seniors in the 2015-2016 school year who don’t pass all of the required exams may use the combined minimum score to apply for graduation.
