Mississippi Seeks Public Comment on Revised Learning Goals for Social Studies

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi State Board of Education voted today to begin the public comment period for the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Social Studies Standards, which will enhance learning guidelines for civics, civil rights and history education in the state. The new learning goals will be piloted in the 2018-19 school year with full implementation in the 2019-20 school year.

MDE Launches Mississippi Innovation Lab Network to Encourage Student-Centered Learning Opportunities

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has launched the Mississippi Innovation Lab Network (MS-ILN) that encourages a network of A- and B-rated school districts to work together to identify, test, and implement student-centered approaches to learning that will be shared statewide to help transform education in Mississippi.

The student-centered approaches to learning include personalized, competency-based, and anytime/anywhere learning.

Mississippi Doubles Participation, Passing Scores for Advanced Placement

JACKSON, Miss. – More than 20 percent of Mississippi public high school students in the graduating class of 2017 took an Advanced Placement (AP) Exam while in high school, according to the College Board AP Program Results: Class of 2017 issued today, doubling the percentage of graduates who took an AP exam over the last 10 years.

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) released today the high school graduation rates for the 2016-17 school year, which show that the state’s graduation rate has reached an all-time high of 83 percent. Mississippi’s rate is just one point shy of the national graduation rate of 84 percent.
