State Board Delays Consideration of School, District Performance Grades for 2017-18 School Year until October

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) voted today to delay until October consideration of approval of letter grades for the 2017-18 school year for schools and districts based on Mississippi’s A-F accountability system.
 
Statewide accountability data sent under embargo to school district superintendents and members of the media on Sept. 17 are unofficial. The embargo was set to lift at noon today.

Mississippi to Launch Interactive Online Report Card to Help Families, Communities Evaluate Schools

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education today announced the creation of the Mississippi Succeeds Report Card, an interactive online tool designed to help parents and communities more easily evaluate schools across the state. The tool, which includes detailed information about each school and district’s academic performance, will be launched Sept. 20 following the release of the annual school and district letter grades.

Regional Meetings for Parents: Strategies to Improve Reading for K-3 Students

Mississippi Launches ‘Strive for Less Than Five’ Absence Prevention Campaign to Reduce Chronic Absenteeism

JACKSON, Miss – Mississippi is kicking off Attendance Awareness Month in September with a statewide campaign to promote regular school attendance.

The Strive for Less than Five campaign challenges students to have no more than five absences over the course of the entire school year.

MDE Announces Lottery for Special Needs Scholarship Program Applications

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) announced plans today for a lottery on August 30 to award approximately 47 Education Scholarship Accounts (ESA) for the 2018-19 school year.

Established by the Equal Opportunity for Students with Special Needs Act of 2015, the ESA program provides scholarships to parents of students with disabilities who want to remove their child from a public school to seek educational services elsewhere.

State Board of Education Votes to Adjust Baseline Accountability Scores for Schools with a 12th Grade

JACKSON, Miss – The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) voted today to reset the baseline scores for establishing accountability grades for schools that have a 12th grade. The change would address the lack of comparability to growth scores in prior years and would take effect for the 2017-18 accountability results.
