Mississippi Math, Science Teachers Earn National Recognition

JACKSON, Miss. – Four Mississippi teachers have been named 2019 state finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). The PAEMST Program is the nation’s highest honor for teachers of mathematics and science (including computer science).

Commission on School Accreditation Votes to Accept Recommendation on U.S. History End-of-Course Exam

JACKSON, Miss. – The Commission on School Accreditation (Commission) voted unanimously today to accept the recommendation of the Mississippi Testing Task Force and to recommend the Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) begin the public comment process to eliminate the U.S. History end-of-course exam.

JACKSON, Miss – Registration is open for the Mississippi Literacy Summit scheduled for Sept. 13-14 at the Jackson Convention Center. The event is free and has a schedule of special sessions for parents, guardians, educators, community partners and policy makers.

The summit theme is “A Shared Commitment to Literacy: Improving Literacy Outcomes for ALL from Birth to the Workforce.”

Commission on School Accreditation Meets Aug. 19

JACKSON, Miss. – The Commission on School Accreditation will hear information about the work of the Mississippi Student Testing Task Force at a special-called meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19 in the 4th floor Board Room of the Mississippi Department of Education.

The purpose of the meeting is to consider the vote of the Task Force and the results of the teacher survey regarding the continuance of the U.S. History end-of-course exam.

Mississippi Student Testing Task Force Recommends Ending the U.S. History End-of-Course Assessment

For Immediate Release: August 13, 2019

JACKSON, Miss. – Of the 29 members, the Mississippi Student Testing Task Force voted 9-2 to recommend elimination of the U.S. History end-of-course assessment following a survey of secondary education teachers. The U.S. History end-of-course exam is the only state test not required by federal or state law.
