Tupelo Meeting for Public Comment on Perkins Plan Cancelled

NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: December 16, 2019

JACKSON, Miss. – The final regional feedback meeting on the Perkins plan has been cancelled due to weather. The meeting was originally scheduled for today (December 16) from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Tupelo High School Media Center in Tupelo.

Public comments may be submitted until 5 p.m. December 18 to mssucceeds@mdek12.org.

Rankin County School District JROTC Cadets Receive Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Academic/Leadership Excellence

(JACKSON, MS) – Two Rankin County School District students were among the 21 Army cadets awarded the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Academic/Leadership Excellence in 2019. The awardees were selected from among the nation’s 315,000 Army cadets and are the only Mississippi cadets to earn the designation this year.  

Mississippi’s Career, Technical Education Plan Open for Public Comment

Perkins V State Plan (Perkins plan) that governs career and technical education (CTE) in the state.  Mississippi’s vision for education and workforce development is to ensure students graduate high school prepared for postsecondary studies and success in the workforce.

SBE Requests Study of Impact of Eliminating the U.S. History End-of-Course Exam

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) decided today that further study is needed before a decision can be made regarding the potential elimination of the U.S. History end-of-course exam.

The SBE directed the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) to work with the Accountability Task Force to research the impact that eliminating the U.S. History assessment would have on the statewide accountability system without changing the cut scores.
