Tupelo Meeting for Public Comment on Perkins Plan Cancelled

JACKSON, Miss. – The final regional feedback meeting on the Perkins plan has been cancelled due to weather. The meeting was originally scheduled for today (December 16) from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Tupelo High School Media Center in Tupelo.
Public comments may be submitted until 5 p.m. December 18 to mssucceeds@mdek12.org.

Fall 2019 Kindergarten-Readiness Results Released

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education released the results of the fall 2019 assessment of kindergarten readiness.
Following annual trends, the percentage of students scoring kindergarten-ready is 36.6% in 2019, compared to 36.1% in 2018, 36.9% in 2017 and 36.4% in 2016.
SBE Requests Study of Impact of Eliminating the U.S. History End-of-Course Exam

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) decided today that further study is needed before a decision can be made regarding the potential elimination of the U.S. History end-of-course exam.
The SBE directed the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) to work with the Accountability Task Force to research the impact that eliminating the U.S. History assessment would have on the statewide accountability system without changing the cut scores.
