Two Mississippi Graduating Seniors Named U.S. Presidential Scholars

JACKSON, Miss. – Two Mississippi students have been named among the 56th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars, which recognizes 161 high school seniors for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields.

Mississippi’s 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars are Vayd Sai Ramkumar of Starkville, a senior at Mississippi School for Mathematics & Science, and Abigail Wiest of Hattiesburg, a senior at Sacred Heart High School.

MDE Seeks Public Input on Prioritizing Federal Funds for School Restart and Recovery

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) is seeking public input to help the state prioritize the use of funds from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The CARES Act provides one-time relief funds to respond to the impact of school closures due to COVID-19 and to assist schools with their restart and recovery plans.

2019 State of Preschool Report Recognizes Mississippi as One of Top States for High-Quality Pre-K

JACKSON, Miss – The National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) recognized Mississippi in its latest report on pre-K quality as one of only four states whose publicly funded pre-K program meets all 10 of NIEER’s new quality standards for early childhood education.

The latest ranking is published in the NIEER report, The State of Preschool 2019. The annual report tracks state-funded preschool access, resources and quality.
