Curriculum and Instruction

The Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Southeast serves the states of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina and is operated by SERVE Center at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The REL Southeast portfolio of work responds to the region's most pressing needs for high-quality research and information. REL Southeast has produced publications and/or provided services in the areas of reading across the curriculum, Response to Intervention, dropout prevention, early childhood, and improving math and science. Through an Evidence-Based Education Request Desk, specific client requests for research-based information are provided on a just-in-time basis. Two large-scale rigorous experimental studies on the effectiveness of interventions of key importance are being conducted. One such study in Mississippi focuses on kindergarten vocabulary development and another in Alabama on Math/Science improvement. Both involve significant collaboration with the states.
